Meals & Drinks at the Lodge

Food at Chan Chich Lodge

There's something wonderful about a meal grown just down the road, and sometimes just down the trail. Chan Chich's kitchen draws heavily from our own 3,000-acre Gallon Jug farm, right here on the estate. So much of what lands on your plate has traveled about as short a distance as food possibly can.

Roughly 90% of the produce you'll enjoy during your stay comes straight from that farm, with the rest sourced from trusted local producers throughout Belize.

COCKTAILS ANYONE?

The Looter’s Trench

Our cozy bar opens after 7:00 am and usually winds down around 9:00 to 9:30pm, though our staff are always glad to keep the evening going a little longer if you're enjoying yourself.

The name carries a story of its own: Chan Chich is built on the plaza of an un-excavated ancient Maya city, and the bar takes its name from the very trenches looters once invaded while searching for what lay beneath it.

The bar is fully stocked with local and imported spirits and exclusively features the ever-popular Belikin: The Beer of Belize. Several of our specialty cocktails are named after birds you might spot that same day, among them the Lovely Cotinga, named for one of the more eye-catching residents of the canopy above you. It's a small way of carrying the day's sightings with you into the evening.

The Looter’s Trench is also where you can catch Trail Camera Viewing Sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

What the Farm Supplies

On any day you'll find the farm's fingerprints in our kitchen. Crates of vegetables pulled that morning, herbs still fragrant from the beds, fruit ripened on the tree rather than in transit.

Our vegetable beds keep the kitchen stocked with chives, kale, basil, cucumber, beets, lettuce, bok choy, radish, parsley, cabbage, sweet peppers, mint, eggplant, cilantro, sweet potato, tomatoes, banana and escabeche peppers, rosemary, onion chives, arugula, zucchini, habanero, jalapeño, cassava, dill, culantro, microgreens, pigeon peas, squash, pumpkin, and celery. Most of it harvested within hours of reaching your table.

The orchards add their own rhythm to the menu, offering up pineapple, papaya, three varieties of banana, plantain, oranges, sour orange, mango, and passion fruit as each comes into season.

The farm raises as much as it grows. Our own beef, pork, and poultry, both chicken and duck, appear on the menu, alongside farm honey, chicken and duck eggs, and bacon cured right here on the estate.

And then there's the coffee. Grown, picked, and roasted without ever leaving the property.

Because all of this comes from the land rather than a warehouse, what's on your plate will shift a little with the seasons; the list above reflects what's regularly available, not a fixed menu.
