Rising more than 900 feet above sea level, the Upper Escarpment offers sweeping views across an almost endless canopy of protected rainforest. The drive itself is part of the adventure, passing through Gallon Jug Estate and Sylvester Village before climbing to this remarkable lookout, where the forest stretches to the horizon.

The escarpment is one of Chan Chich's premier birding locations. As warm air rises from the forest below, birds of prey take advantage of the thermals, gliding effortlessly overhead and providing exceptional viewing opportunities. With a little patience—and a good pair of binoculars—you may spot Black-and-white Hawk-Eagles, White Hawks, King Vultures, Short-tailed Hawks, and other soaring raptors that make this dramatic landscape their home.
