The month of June brings with it summer sunshine and tons of opportunities for fun and adventure. While the beginning of the month is marked by warm temperatures and clear skies, as the start of the green season, it may also include a rainy day or two in the later weeks. June is also a month that’s met with eager anticipation by many. With schools closed for summer break, families in Belize find themselves looking for fun ways to beat the heat together, while friend groups finally find the time to take travel plans out of the group chat. All in all, it’s a great month for travel, and if you’re planning on visiting during this time, here’s what you need to know about Belize in June.

What to Expect When Traveling to Belize in June

As the summer plans heat up, so do the temperatures. Belize is a tropical country, after all, and the month of June marks the start of the warmer months. Ensure your trip is as comfortable as it is enjoyable by packing for the weather—that means light, breathable clothing, hats or sunshades, and of course plenty of reef-safe sunblock. Expect average temperatures of 85°F (29°C), though it may feel much hotter, and humid, in some areas.

As the start of the Green Season, traveling to Belize in June also means witnessing the country at its lushest. Flowering trees are in bloom, and as the occasional rains begin, places like the jungle come alive with color.

Top Things to Do

For travelers seeking something to do beyond relaxing on the beach or at a waterfall, the summer months offer plenty of options. Here are just a few options to consider when visiting Belize in June.

Attend Mango Fest

Belize is big on its seasonal fruits, but there’s probably none that’s as beloved as the mango. When June rolls around, everyone (from kids to the elderly) finds themselves scouring the markets and even the roadside mango trees for this delectable fruit. Try and see how many varieties of mango you can spot when visiting the annual Mango Fest in the village of Hopkins. It’s a fun festival for all ages that promises plenty of good eats, games, and live music.

Visit the Belize Zoo

The “best little zoo in the world” is found just off Belize’s Western Highway, and every year in June, it celebrates its anniversary in a big way. First, on the first Saturday of the month, the zoo honors the legacy of its founder with Saron Matola Day. It’s a day filled with fun, prizes, and insightful animal experiences. The zoo also hosts a special dinner event in June, the Wild Tales Dinner, dedicated to fundraising for the Sharon Matola Scholarship Fund.
