A New Way to Experience the Jungle—Without Leaving the Lodge
Chan Chich Lodge has always offered one of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences in Belize. Set in the heart of 30,000 protected acres, the lodge sits inside one of the most biodiverse regions of the Americas—home to jaguars, pumas, ocelots, tapirs, coatimundis, and hundreds of bird species.
Now, guests can enjoy a new wildlife experience at the lodge that brings the jungle even closer: Trail Camera Viewings at the Looters Trench — Every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 PM
These curated wildlife sessions allow guests to see what happens in the forest when no one is watching. Our trail cameras, placed throughout the Gallon Jug Estate capture the secret lives of Belize’s most elusive animals.
From big cats on the prowl to playful ocelots, shy tapirs, or a massive groups of peccaries, the footage is always surprising — and always real.
Guided by Experts: Learn as You Watch
One of the standout features of our Trail Camera Viewings is that they are led by our knowledgeable on-site guides.
During each session, guests can:
Ask questions about animal behaviors
- Learn to identify jaguars, pumas, ocelots, foxes, deer, and more
- Understand movement patterns, hunting habits, and species interactions
- Gain insight into conservation work happening at Chan Chich Lodge
- Hear fascinating stories from guides who encounter wildlife daily
Our guides bring the footage to life — transforming each viewing into a fun, educational, and deeply memorable experience.
A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Belize’s Apex Predators
Few places in the world offer such intimate access to big cats in their natural habitat.
On any given viewing, guests may see:
- Jaguars marking territory or strolling along forest roads
- Pumas silently passing through the jungle
- Ocelots grooming, playing, or carrying prey
- Coatimundi families traveling in large groups
- Tapirs wandering right up to the camera
- Gibnut, deer, foxes, and other forest residents
- Mothers and their babies in the wild
Every video is real footage captured just steps—or minutes—from where guests are staying. Here’s a preview below.
A Deeper Connection to the Rainforest
Trail Camera Viewings help guests appreciate the extraordinary ecosystem that surrounds the lodge. They also highlight:
- The importance of the Belize Maya Forest
- Wildlife corridors that protect endangered species
- How Chan Chich contributes to research and conservation
- The impact of sustainable eco-tourism
What Guests say:
“A fascinating look into the jungle you never get to see.”
“Incredible to watch jaguars passing the camera at 2 AM!”
“A great way to learn more before going on drives and hikes.”
And because the viewings happen in the evening, it’s a relaxing way to end the day before dinner or drinks at the bar.
